Neurotoxin Injection Post-Treatment Care

  1. Remain in an upright position for 4 hours after treatment;
  2. Refrain from wearing a hat or tight-fitting headband for one-week post forehead injection;
  3. Do not rub, massage, or otherwise engage the injection sites for one-week post-injection;
  4. No heavy exercise for 24 hours post-injection;
  5. You may wish to actively move, by expression, the treated areas during this time, as this may help you increase the response of the targeted muscles;
  6. Botox injections slowly set in over 3-14 days. Different sites may set in sooner than others. Please wait a full two weeks prior to scheduling a touch-up appointment;
  7. There are no known permanent side effects.
  8. Temporary possible side effects may include but are not limited to:
    1. Bruising – Near the injection site can occur and can last 7-10 days
    2. Headache – Related to the actual injections, is usually mild and transient, lasting less than 24 hours. May be relieved with Tylenol.
    3. Asymmetry – if present, will be noticed in the first 2 weeks of therapy. This may be corrected with a touch-up treatment of injections if necessary. There is a fee for touch-ups.
    4. Numbness – A change in sensation noticed by some patients in the treated areas, better described as ‘dullness’, it is typically noticed only for a few days after treatment.
    5. Eyebrow or eyelid ptosis (drooping) or diplopia (double vision): seen in only 1-2% of patients receiving this treatment. It is temporary, lasting a few weeks and is usually mild.
